Money Is Attracted To Speed!

It used to amaze and scare me to watch my husband Terry make decisions or deals as quickly as he did. It didn’t seem to me that he took the appropriate amount time to determine if and how he should do that deal. What I didn’t realize was that if it is a deal…especially a good deal…it would not last. I needed to be able to recognize and be willing to move on it quickly. I spent time learning real estate investment here in the Springs and I have been known to make a deal to purchase a piece of property over the phone. I have learned the importance of speed.

One of the topics that keeps coming up in our coaching group is over-analyzing things. It is something that I have had to learn to stop myself from doing and it is something that I teach my students to stop doing. I think most humans play life “safely” and we are taught to read all the fine print and look before we leap. And while that is sound advice for some areas of our lives, it can cripple us in other areas when we need to take decisive action in order to be successful. Remember this…Money is attracted to speed. The speed in which we hop on a business or career opportunity can make all the difference on our return on investment. If we wait too long and think too hard on making that life altering career move, someone hungrier and more aggressive than us can sneak up behind and beat us to the punch!

Quick example for you…Do you really think the person who was fed up with how slow the mail was decided to create Fed EX was the first person to come up with that idea? Of course not. But, they WERE the person who actually acted on it and used fast implementation. Imagine how all the other people who “thought” about an idea like Fed Ex felt when it actually materialized. They had to have kicked themselves! My point is that, you cannot over analyze things to death or you will surely miss out on a lot of opportunities in life. I know that I personally missed out on lots of things I wanted to do waiting for the perfect moment….but I now know there is no perfect moment except the one that I create for myself!

If It’s To Be, It’s Up To Me

Let’s Get It Right In 2007!

This is going to be the BEST YEAR OF MY LIFE, COME HECK OR HIGH WATER! I am thinking about how we are already into March and we’re off to a good start this year. If you are like me, each year you vow to make it a better one than last, or say “this is going to be a year of change for me.” But often the year goes by and nothing much has really changed. So what is REALLY going to make this a new and more prosperous year for you? What is going to be different about 2007?

I think it is first important to stop and write down the things in your life that may be preventing you from prosperity. And yes, you can be prosperous in spirit and soul which is very important in order to achieve life balance, but I am talking about financial prosperity right now. The ability to elevate the life of yourself and your family so that you can give back to others and affect change. Let’s face it, we all want to help others, but the better position we are in financially ourselves, the more we can do just that!
So why do you fall short of your new goals each year? Do you make excuses and justify your position? Do you think you just don’t have time because of family obligations and work? ALL EXCUSES. There is ALWAYS time to do whatever we want, and if it means getting up an hour earlier to get it done, or going to sleep an hour later, then that is what it takes. What about the exercise program you keep promising yourself you are going to follow, or the meal plan to ensure you are eating healthy to both lose weight and prevent yourself from disease? How long can you go on justifying not taking control?

Don’t let years and years of the same old cycle go by, together let’s make 2007 the REAL year of change. Set your goals, write them down and make some changes to your routine! I am personally about to rev up my work out regimen and take my real estate investing career to a whole new level. There is still so much to learn and do and I am determined to do it!

Make A Fresh Start

Anybody else out there looking forward to spring? I know I am. This is the time of year for me that although I know it is still off a ways, I begin looking for those signs of spring, the first greens, when life renews itself, when there seems to be a fresh start.

A young woman wrote to me last holiday season about a divorce she is going through with her husband. She stated that she can’t remember a great holiday as a family because her husband’s views on marriage and family just differed so much from hers. What really hit home for her though, was the feeling of betrayal she felt from her husband. She said no matter how good of a woman she was, he just didn’t seem to notice or appreciate her for all that she did. In her eyes, he was more concerned with the other people in his life and that is where he put all of his energy. But in the end, she said she felt neglected and betrayed by someone she was supposed to be a team with, but who just plain and simply wasn’t interested in the kind of marriage she wanted. Her email broke my heart because no man or woman should have to feel lonely or pushed aside by their spouse. That is supposed to be the strongest bond there is, but if that bond does not exist, then you have nothing.
The end result was a woman pulling herself together and taking charge of her own life again, and no longer worrying about trying to make someone love her who obviously just was not interested. Rather than focus on the pain, she was looking for a way to start fresh and do something new for herself. She knew real estate investing was a sure route to go, and with the new year right around the corner, she felt this was a great time to delve into it full speed ahead. As she put it, “2007 needs to be the year I focus on myself and stop expecting so much from others because people will always let you down.” Quite frankly, I get several emails from people in this same predicament, both husbands and wives. The one thing they have in common is the desire to push ahead and make the most of their lives.

Live Like You Are Dying

Hi Everybody,

Have you heard that song by Tim McGraw, ‘I hope you get the chance to live like you were dying.’ The words hit me like a ton of bricks the first time I heard them. Some of you might know my husband Terry. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2003. It was relatively advanced and the doctors said I should help him get his things in order. I can tell you it rocked my world. Happily, he is still with me and is still harassing me on a daily basis but you will never hear me complain. The reason I tell you this is not to get sympathy but to share with you what the incredible power of positive attitude has done for me and my life. There are so many times when I think I was the one, not him, who was helped, I was the one who learned about living life and appreciating that gift in a way I never understood before, and I was the one who learned how useless and paralyzing my own fear was.

To illustrate, there was a real estate meeting in Denver (about an hour away) a couple weeks after his surgery. Now he was looking at recovery from this surgery and chemotherapy and yet he wanted to go. While we were there, the man running that meeting offered a mentorship program. The cost was $10,000. and it was a full year program. Now understand, Terry was not supposed to make it another year. But he was determined and it was my first lesson of how powerful his attitude was in his recovery and by extension my own. He went through that mentorship year, became an expert in creative real estate strategies while battling his disease, recovered and made quantum leaps in our investing business. Although I was not the one with the disease, I feel like I was the one who recovered. I was the one given this gift.

I have learned in a very real sense that attitude is everything. There will always be things that I am sorry I have done. I know there are times when I have been insensitive and hurt a friend or family member inadvertantly. But, I have decided that although I regret some things I have done, when I die I will not regret the things I did not do.

Taking a lesson from my husband Terry, you just never know about life or what your future holds for you. So while you are here on this earth, you MUST fulfill your dreams and aspirations and you must live every day like it is your last. This is the same mentality that gave me the courage to walk away from a secure teaching job and pursue something brand new. There was no point in me dragging myself to a job that was no longer fulfilling to me and brought me no joy. That is merely existing. I wanted to be like the people I knew who made good money and loved what they were doing. Can you imagine working hard for YOURSELF and calling your own shots? I can tell you first hand that there is nothing like it. I am very proud of myself for tackling my fears of the unknown and making the transition from employee to Investor. I can’t quite explain the feeling, so instead I want you to feel it for yourself!

IT’S YOUR CHOICE–CHOOSE WISELY

Hi Everyone!

I have been receiving lots of emails about how blunt and straightforward I am about things. I have NOT been that way my whole life. but I am learning. I think I get it from my husband! I try to be the type of friend that will tell you the truth, especially when the truth is what you need. I KNOW for a fact that you have friends you call to tell a problem to that you know will just agree with everything you say and take your side no matter what. I call those the PACIFIERS!! And THEN you have those friends that you don’t ever want to call because you know they will tell you the truth and probably not be on your side and you just don’t want to hear it! I call those the REALISTS!

But how does a person ever grow by walking through life on eggshells? If you bury your head in the sand and pretend everything you are doing is enough or okay, then that is where you will remain the rest of your life. But if you challenge yourself and push yourself to make sacrifices for the things that REALLY matter, then you are taking the right steps to change your entire life for the better. But it starts within. Expect more from yourself and hold yourself accountable. And most importantly, learn how to prioritize. Let me give you some examples…

When ever I hold my FREE seminars I always send out reminders to everyone who registered. As soon as I send those reminders out, I get people calling me back or emailing me to let me know they can’t make it. Now, sometimes things come up and we have to switch our plans, however, some of the reasons I get for not making the seminar are outrageous! Someone told me they needed to get their hair done instead one time! Since when does getting your hair done generate income for you or your family or elevate your life to the next level? Sometimes people tell me the seminar is too far for them when they may live in Falcon or Fountain. But I know those same people will go to Castlerock to go to an outlet mall or to Summit County to ski any day of the week. To me, it’s a no brainer…If I am showing you how you can make money and change your life, but you still choose to get your hair done, then you have to do some serious soul searching and re-evaluate what it is you want. So it is all how we prioritize our life. These simple revelations are what separates the people who will move forward in life, versus the people who will stay stuck wondering why things are not changing for them.

After my students attend my boot camp, they often thank me, my husband Terry and the members of our Power Team for being so straightforward with them. We hold every single person accountable for their success and if we start to get excuses, we snap them back into reality. Do we do this to be mean? No, we do it to keep them focused and to make them successful. After all, if we didn’t care about the success of each and every one of them, we wouldn’t waste our time, being their “Accountability Coach” for twelve months! The Power of the Hang-Up or Who’s Keeping You In Line ?

OH MY GOODNESS!! JANUARY 2007 is almost gone! Are you nervous? Have you started?? I have a whole lot of goals in place for 2007 and if I can stay on track, this will turn out to be one heck of a year for me. I am so excited and ready to go and already taking action, but sometimes not soon enough. Last week, I procrastinated and didn’t meet a deadline and my coach actually hung-up on me. I couldn’t believe it!! He actually hung-up on me! And oddly enough, I knew he did that for me and it motivated me to get busy. And the truth is that is the trick. Let me give you another little trick…find yourself an “Accountability Coach.”

An Accountability Coach is someone like minded and positive who is on a mission just like yourself to finally make some good powerful changes in their life. I’m not talking about just anybody or your best friend or shopping buddy. I am talking about whoever you know who is determined and straight forward and will give it to you honestly. This is the person that you should sit down with and exchange your personal goals, action plans, and timelines. Come up with intervals in which the two of you will meet over the phone or in person and ask the other where they are at on completing a project or goal that is important to them for 2007. If you are REALLY serious, how about putting some money in the pot? Have a third party person hold a couple hundred dollars for the both of you, and whoever falls off track of reaching their goals, loses their money to the other person. It’s pretty simple if you are serious about making some positive strives in your life this year. Putting up the money shouldn’t be a thing if you KNOW you are going to stick to your goals come heck or high water!

I am putting my money where my mouth is this year. My Real Estate investing partners and my realtors are all participating in this whole Accountability Coaching exercise. We have each put up $5,000 that is being held by a third party person who has all of our goals and action plans safely stored on their computer. We have pre-determined dates set for our conference calls to report out to each other if we have made our deadlines or not. NO excuses allowed, simple yes or no answers will be the ONLY thing that is accepted. And I am NOT scared! Are you?

DON’T BE A GOOSE

WERE YOU THERE? If you missed the January 2007 Seminar on Real Estate Investing last night, then I am so sorry for you! We started the new year off right, with people anxious and enthusiastic about making positive changes in their lives. My husband was a huge inspiration and his passion for helping people resonated throughout the room.

Let’s talk about the ability to change for a moment. Sometimes our lives lead us down a path that isn’t quite where we want to be. But the unique and amazing thing is that we as humans do indeed have the ability to switch directions and change. Unlike geese who fly south for the winter, each and every year because they are governed by instinct and the genetic code, we have the ability to change course and change direction by act of will. People often send me emails saying they have reached a point they just don’t want to be anymore and they don’t know what to do. And my answer is always the same….Make a change. You are able to do that. It begins with the inner voice inside of you. YOU have got to believe in you before anyone else will. And when you realize you are worthy of everything you desire, slowly and surely the transformation will take place. Don’t be a goose!”

I would love to stay and chat with you some more, but I have got to begin setting up interviews with all of the people who applied to come into my program last night. Those people who decided to fill out an application took what we call DECISIVE ACTION and I am proud of them. Over analyzing decisions in life paralyze you and when you look up, you haven’t done a darn thing. Don’t become of a victim of this, as you will look up and years will have passed you by. Remember, NO REGRETS in 2007. Life is too short and too precious to ever regret the things you didn’t do. Use your time well.

BEWARE!!!! The Dream Stealers Are Everywhere

Hi Everyone,

I had an opportunity this week to visit with my friend Lloyd Irvin, who lives in Maryland, and found we were hearing some of the same things from our respective real estate groups. They are being fed information that may be detrimental to their goals. The sad thing here is they are being fed this negative information from the people who are closest to them and who have their best interests at heart.

I am very lucky. My husband has one of the lowest tolerances for negativity that I have ever witnessed. So does Lloyd. This has had a tremendous effect on my behavior and my entire outlook on life. Where once, in the face of a new idea or change, I was hesitant and threw up every objection I could come up with why that change or that new idea would not work! Today, however, as a direct result of their influence, I am much happier to embrace change and new ideas.

Not everyone is as lucky as I am. So it is very important to identify these individuals who are trying to steal your dreams. Beware, they may look like the people who love you and to tell the truth, they really are trying to protect you. But they are telling you all the reasons why what you want can’t be had. Why what you want to do can’t be done–at least not by you. That, for instance, real estate is too complicated. That it is too risky. That their brother lost a fortune. And they can be subtle. Quietly and systematically undermining your ambition and confidence.

It is critical, in my opinion, to search out people who are encouraging of your dreams and ambitions. Let me ask you, if you knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that your child was hanging out with 9 other children who were doing drugs and were up to no good, would you let your child continue hanging out with them? If you knew your child was hanging out with 9 other kids who were out stealing cars, would you allow that to happen? Of course not. Well, listening to the negative thoughts is every bit as deadly or paralyzing as those drug using, car stealing thieves. You’ve heard that saying, ‘You are what you eat.’ Well, I think you are who you listen to. So the question is, who are you listening to? Who are you hanging with? What are you being fed?

I am living proof that when I made the decision to choose who I would listen to, to actively choose my teachers, to listen to people who knew I could anything I wanted, my life was changed. And I know that making the choices of who you listen to will change your life too. It kind of goes back to that old saying, ‘Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.’

I will close today with this thought that I heard in high school, when you’re out there wondering who to listen to and how to reach those goals, keep your eye on the doughnut and not on the hole.

What Makes You So Special

Hi Everyone,
We just had our one-day seminar on Systems—How To Work On Your Business, Not In Your Business last Saturday. I am certain that everyone there enjoyed the presentations and came away with several ideas on how they could quickly implement the ideas and strategies that separate the successful business owners from the others.
As I was listening to my husband Terry, I was again struck by realization that although being an educator myself, the education and knowledge I received throughout my academic career did not prepare me in the least to take charge of my life much less my finances. What I learned there was how to be an excellent employee and how to plan my life around someone else’s calendar.

Think And Grow Rich

it states that one of the common traits amongst the richest and most successful people in the world is “SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE.”
What “SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE” do you have that can make you money? If you don’t have any, then your solution is simple, go out and gain “Specialized Knowledge” in something that can make you money.
I’ve become a self made multi millionaire through my “Specialized Knowledge” in Real Estate. It’s something that I learned just in the last five years. Before that, for all intents and purposes, I was essentially broke, no assets, no money, and no true freedom. Nope, it was just me, my teaching job, and my college degree. ANYONE can do this. But they don’t teach it in colleges, in schools or where we are forced to get our education in America. You basically have to know someone that will walk you by the hand and teach you. I was lucky, Terry taught me. The good news is, he can teach you too.
It wasn’t my parents fault, it’s not your parents fault and if you’re a parent it’s not your fault either. You just don’t know any better. As a parent you just do the best that you can with what you know. There’s no fault in that. Heck, most of the parents I know including mine are/were “Employees”, either waiting for their retirement to come or trying to find a way out of the current job situation. Dreaming of the day they can stop going to work!
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not against college. I am against what college is setting you up for, but understand that college is VERY necessary. And ANYONE around me that asks me if they should attend college I tell them “YES.” I have hundreds of kids at my karate school that look at me as a college graduate as an example to make it to college.
You see, only about 3% of the entire population will ever gain the type of “Specialized Knowledge” that I’m talking about. It’s not because that it’s hard to learn, but it’s like a cosmic universal law or something that only 3% of the people in the population are serious enough to actually follow through with their desire to not be in the other 97% of the population that WILL RETIRE UNHAPPY AND BROKE!!!
Having “Specialized Knowledge” kind of makes you “Cocky.” Don’t get me wrong. I’m not talking about being “Arrogant,” but still “Cocky.” I like knowing that with my “Specialized Knowledge” if we were to lose all of my assets that we own today. In 12 to 18 months I would make it all back. And although I would never want that to happen I have “NO” doubt that we would quickly make it “ALL” back. That’s a great feeling.
If you lost everything you owned, are you confident that you could make it all back without a doubt? You see, someone could take away all of my assets, but they can never take away my knowledge. And the knowledge is PRICELESS where as MONEY is well…… JUST MONEY, It comes and goes.
How would you like to gain “Specialized Knowledge” in something that can help you make money? Something that NO ONE can take away from you. Something that you can predictably do day in and day out to generate cash. Well in our Real Estate Investing Boot Camps we are teaching “Specialized Knowledge”. Knowledge that is allowing average people just like you make money as Real Estate Investors.
People are always trying to figure out what we are doing and how we are doing it. No one in the area can produce the results that we have because they are lacking in one of the key areas of “Specialized Knowledge” that we have access to. It’s not in our books, our training manual or in our power point presentation. It’s not something that you can get your hands on and read and learn it. It’s something that has to be passed on to you. Like life lessons, like the way we pass on the gift of karate to our students that deserve it.
You can read all the books and read all of the courses in the World and you will NEVER get what I’m talking about without a mentor to take you through the process of learning it. And it doesn’t happen overnight.
The answer is we have several “Specialized Knowledge” factors happening at the same time. “Specialized Knowledge” in Real Estate Investing, Wholesaling (Very few understand), Short Sales (Almost No one Understands, and those that do, don’t have the resources to make it happen), Lease Options (No Secret Here), Foreclosures (Almost every small investor is doing this wrong, we go through the back door, a back door that only “we” have the key to in this area) etc. (There are a few people that know how to do some aspects of these in our area, but it’s basically book knowledge)
Another one of the common traits amongst the richest and most successful people in the World as listed in “Think And Grow Rich” is The Power Of The Mastermind.
In one of my Mastermind Groups that we pay $25,000 a year to belong to has 6 of the most successful Real Estate Investors/ Marketers in the Country. 4-5 times a year I’m in a room networking with people that are making obscene amounts of money in Real Estate Investing.
This is PRICELESS. You won’t get access to this information in any books, manuals or in these so called real estate investing meetings popping up all over the place, where a bunch of people that aren’t rich from Real Estate Investing are running meetings about becoming Rich in Real Estate Investing. Seems backwards to me, doesn’t it?

When the student is ready, the teacher will appear

I spent a week last month in Phoenix and I found myself trying to explain what we do as real estate investors and how we do it to people (who I love very much–my family) and during the course of some of the conversations thought it might be less painful to just bang my head against the wall. Then I realized that the problem was me. I was trying to teach people who are not ready and may never be. Real estate investing is definitely not for everyone. And I need to practise what I teach more and wait until people are ready to learn. I guess I am just excited by the opportunities this life style has afforded me and I want to share them. Still I know that out of hundred people we talk to about the opportunities and how to take advantage of them, only ten will take action. Only ten will want to learn. Only ten. I need to wait for those who truly want to learn because it is those with whom I can make a positive difference. I know what a mastermind group and a mentor has done for me and what it has done for our students, but just like I had to be ready, they also must be ready. I do not mean to suggest that my only contribution to other people has to be through business as I know I matter in other ways, but I must learn to wait for those individuals who really want success in their investing and their business to tell me before I just assume they want to know. When they do, I know it will be a journey we both want to take.
